Nestled amidst the enchanting mountains of Galicia, Cantina O Ponton offers more than just a meal; it presents a true experience of tradition and warmth. Located at LU-651, 28, 27325 Folgoso do Courel, Lugo, Spain, this restaurant stands as a testament to the region's rich culinary heritage, marked by friendly service and a picturesque backdrop.
The journey to Cantina O Ponton is as much part of the charm as the destination itself. As you wind through the scenic mountain roads, the anticipation builds. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by the magnificent sight of a centenary chestnut tree, offering a welcoming embrace while the soothing sound of the nearby river sets a tranquil atmosphere.
Inside, the ambiance is a delightful mix of rustic and modern decor, entirely crafted by the owner. Each piece of furniture, skillfully sculpted from local wood, tells a story of craftsmanship. This attention to detail creates a cozy and eclectic dining space where each meal feels like a special occasion.
The menu is delightfully simple yet profoundly satisfying, featuring a single star: the stone-grilled veal. This dish is not merely a meal but an homage to local ingredients. Served alongside a fresh salad of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, all seasoned with organic extra virgin olive oil and homemade balsamic vinegar, it embodies the essence of local gastronomy. The careful preparation and quality of the meat are evident with every bite, offering a burst of flavor that is hard to beat.
Guests have not only raved about the food but also about the heartwarming service provided by the owner and his daughter, who treat every visitor like family. This personal touch enhances the dining experience, making each patron feel cherished (review by Antonio Castelo).
And let’s not forget the house wine: fruity, full-bodied, and perfect for pairing with the meal, while the house desserts provide a delightful ending, simple yet delectable. Whether you are gazing out at the stunning natural landscape or immersed in the cozy environment, Cantina O Ponton is a haven for those seeking authentic Galician cuisine.
This restaurant is a true hidden gem that is worth every mile of the journey. As noted by Paul Gladis, it's a masterpiece of woodworking, inviting everyone to come for a drink and marinate in the surroundings. So be sure to make a reservation before you go; this is one experience you will not want to miss.

Mindblowing restaurant where every single piece of furniture has been sculpted with local wood. Wonderful food with local product, and top meat grilled on a handmade oven on the terrace.

The road there (depending from where youre coming) is a 40mins. Drive up the mountains, sorounded by beautiful mountains and nature, excellent route for motorcycle escape in summer.... Once you get there you will find a centenary chessnut tree in front of a small river that welcomes you to the parking lot... When you get inside the house you will be amazed with all the furniture and decoration hand made by the owner... Wood working skills at is best! Its quite eclectic mixed with a bit of modern trying to keep the scense of the zone... You will eat with the sound of the river in an very peaceful and cozy place where the owner and his daugther will take care of you like if you were part of the family. Stone grilled veal is the only item on the menu, served with a fresh letucce, tomato and onions salad dressed with organic extra virgin olive olive from the area and home made balsamic vinegar... The house wine is fruity and tasteful with great body! House desserts (if you still have space for it) is quite simple, yet good... Definetely a place that worth the ride... Super friendly, peaceful and cheap! Dont hesitate one minute to go... But remember to call to reserve table!

One of the most beautiful places you can find in the Courel Mountains, it is located next to a very beautiful stream, between Folgoso do Courel and Seoane do Courel. It is made almost entirely of wood which gives it an even more beautiful touch. This place is a must if you are visiting Galicia and Courel Mountains.
